Personal branding key in L&D, says Blue Eskimo at LT Summer Forum 2017

A greater than twofold oversubscription for Blue Eskimo’s personal branding sessions at Learning Technologies 2017 demonstrates the subject’s importance to L&D professionals, says Blue Eskimo.

Blue Eskimo’s two ‘personal branding’ sessions at Learning Technologies Summer Forum 2017 are substantially oversubscribed, says learning recruitment specialist Blue Eskimo – but the company is offering one-to-one sessions during the rest of the day. People are able to drop in and discuss personal branding in L&D – or any other topic.

Nick Bate, director at Blue Eskimo, says that the popularity of the events is entirely down to the subject’s relevance to L&D professionals. “Building a personal brand, especially on social media, is a key way that L&D professionals demonstrate their passion and ability for their vocation,” says Bate.

“If you think about some roles in learning,” says Bate, “such as an e-learning developer, they demonstrate their skills through a portfolio of finished work. L&D professionals demonstrate their skills in a different way – and personal branding is one of the most important. Their value comes from the way they think, what they know, what they believe. That becomes their personal brand. Building a personal brand online benefits their employer, the sector and – from a career perspective – themselves.”

The sessions explore how L&D professionals are adding significant value to the organisations for which they work, using social media and building an online profile that raises the level of debate around L&D issues. They also cover how the L&D profession is evolving, how L&D career paths are changing and which skills are hot now – and will be in years to come.

Blue Eskimo was originally scheduled to hold one session, but another was booked, at the request of the event’s organisers, after the first was quickly oversubscribed. Those who are unable to attend the sessions can explore the topic in one-to-one sessions throughout the day; Blue Eskimo’s team will be in conference room five all day.

Blue Eskimo has long been a supporter of the Learning Technologies conference, and is again one of its proud sponsors. “For us, Learning Technologies isn’t ‘just an exhibition’,” says Bate, “it’s where some of the best minds in the sector get together to exchange strategies, experiences and viewpoints. It’s great to be a part of this – delivering our experience as the leading recruiter in the sector.”

For those attending the session, Blue Eskimo’s 12:20 session takes place in conference room four; the 15:00 session is in conference room five.
